The Event Desktop: Supporting Event-enabled Clients on the Web
نویسنده
چکیده
The quantity of information available on the World Wide Web is staggering. The average computer user is unable to stay abreast of changes and newly available resources. The main deterrence to keeping users informed is that the Web is still largely a passive medium and only ad-hoc mechanisms for notifying users are possible. This paper assumes that wide-area event notification is the natural missing component to alleviate this issue. Based on this assumption, this paper introduces the Event Desktop infrastructure. The Event Desktop is built on top of a wide-area event notification system and intends to simplify event client creation, dissemination, and management. The combination of the Event Desktop and a wide-area event notification system creates a platform for experimentation on the next generation of active Web applications.

Declarative Web Programming with PROLOG and XUL
Modern information systems are more often web-based than simple single PC desktop applications. In the last few years, developers have used common frameworks like GWT, JSF or similar to produce thin or rich client applications with the use of Java server technology for the backend part. This paper introduces a new way of implementing thin clients with declarative web programming and PROLOG as a...
متن کاملEvent Processing over a Distributed JSON Store: Design and Performance
Web applications are increasingly built to target both desktop and mobile users. As a result, modern Web development infrastructure must be able to process large numbers of events (e.g., for location-based features) and support analytics over those events, with applications ranging from banking (e.g., fraud detection) to retail (e.g., just-in-time personalized promotions). We describe a system ...
متن کاملAddressing Device-Based Adaptation of Services: A Model Driven Web Service Oriented Development Approach
The rapid growth of the mobile devices market and the increasing requirements of mobile users augment the need to develop Web Service clients that could be deployed and run on both mobile and desktop devices. Different developers attempt to address this heterogeneity requirement and provide solutions that simplify and automate the development of device-aware services. This chapter proposes a Mo...
متن کاملThe influence of event attributes on tourist’s loyalty: Evidence from the Ashoura event in Yazd City
Many studies have found that the perceived authenticity of cultural and religious events affects event satisfaction and loyalty. Little is currently known about how perceived authenticity is affected by the facilities, such as food and the availability of information, which are independent determinants of satisfaction and loyalty. This study aims to examine the antecedents of event loyalty. Que...
متن کاملA JavaScript RDF store and application library for linked data client applications
In this paper we present a pure JavaScript implementation of an RDF store supporting the SPARQL query language that can be executed in modern browsers as well as in server side JavaScript platforms. We also present a declarative JavaScript library, built on top of the store, that makes it possible to build rich web clients combining the power of structured linked data, lightweight RDF notations...
